Reconfiguring a TP-Link Deco setup

Step 1: Reset all your TP-Link Decos.

If the main Deco is flashing blue then you need to create your network from scratch, which requires all the decos to be reset. Press the reset button on the base of each unit, the light will go yellow and then eventually start flashing blue. Once flashing blue it has been reset successfully.

Once reset it is best practise to turn off the power to each Deco, ensuring that only the main Deco is still turned on.

Step 2: Download the Deco App

Download the Deco app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store on your smartphone.

Step 3: Open the Deco App

Open the Deco app and follow the on-screen instructions:

  • Log in or create a TP-Link account.
  • Tap “Let's Begin” and select your Deco model.

Step 4: Configure the Primary Deco

  • Follow the app’s instructions to set up the primary Deco unit. The app will guide you through naming your network and setting a password.

Step 5: Add Additional Deco Units

  1. Power On: Plug in the additional units and wait until the LED pulses blue.
  2. Add in the App: In the Deco app, select “Add Deco Unit” and follow the prompts to add each additional unit to the network.

Step 6: Complete Setup

  • Once all Deco units are added, the app will finish the configuration.
  • The LED on each unit will turn solid green, indicating a successful setup.

Step 7: Network Optimisations.

Once your network is up and running, return to the app and goto:

  • More on the bottom right of the app
  • Advanced
  • DHCP server

Set the Primary DNS field to 8.8.8.8 and the Secondary DNS field to 1.1.1.1

Step 7: Connect Your Devices

Connect your devices to the new Deco Wi-Fi network using the network name and password you set up earlier.
